Welcome to SBLAS Performing Arts School - located in the heart of Ashley Cross Poole, will deliver the very best in all subjects taught, thriving on being a unique school with a 100% exam pass rate. We welcome children from 18 months upwards giving each child added attention in our smaller classes as well as giving the children a platform of skills, life skills, education and a lifetime of memories.
SBLAS is recognized for its unique approach to performing arts, which is where our hand picked professional faculty have a major part to play in devising our lesson plans, as well as following British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA), London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) andTrinity Music examination syllabus's, we provide the highest levels of teachings in the South Coast.
We do not expect every child to participate in exams, which is where our devised lesson plans and school companies come in to play, where they hold different, tasks, abilities, learning outcomes and examination levels. Through the year, children can move up into the new company, when goals are reached. Every student is an individual and we work towards achieving the best of their ability. We believe that parent’s involvement is essential to a student’s progression, therefore an end of term school report is given out, as well as our end of term showcase.
Beyond the studio doors we provide a unique platform of opportunities for the children to participate in. We have seen performances in the Bournemouth and Poole area, been privileged enough to be invited to perform at Festival Hall London. Her Majesty's Theatre London, Wimborne Folk Festival, as well as participating in ITV and London casting auditions, including being given the chance to perform in DisneyLand Paris.
Currently SBLAS are proud to say they are in the final stages of becoming Ofsted registered, with all faculty members DBS and first aid trained, for maximum assurance.
We love meeting new students, and look forward to meeting you.

My daughter wasn't really very confident and I thought Shining Bright Like a Star might help her. Everyone there is so friendly, very helpful and made us feel very comfortable. Stacey now does ballet, dance, singing and acting classes, she goes to Shining Bright Like a Star twice a week. Miss Marie the singing teacher is really bubbly, makes everything fun and includes everybody. Stacey loves everything at Shining Bright Like a Star and especially likes her dance classes.
Shining Bright Like a Star is a very friendly, relaxed group where everybody is made to feel very welcome. Maria, who runs it, is lovely and very much for the kids. Everybody is included. My daughter, Amy has been going to Shining Bright Like a Star since last September. She goes three times a week to do tap, ballet, jazz, theatre performance, singing and acting. Amy loves Maria, all the teachers and has made loads of friends. She has really come out of her shell since joining and her confidence has gone through the roof.
My daughter has only been with sblas for a short time, but she has become confident and I put that down to the dance teachers. I find them welcoming and very friendly. I would recommend them to anybody.
My daughter Gemma has been attending singing and drama classes for over a year with SBLAS. She has grown very confident in her performances over this time period and has been guided very well by her two teachers. She got a Distinction in her first ever drama exam and this is a testament to the dedication of the staff. Gemma is very happy in this friendly, family orientated school.

Principal and Managing Director Miss Maria Marra established SBLAS - Shining Bright Like A Star in 2010 with a modern vision on Singing, Acting and Dancing. Maria realised early on, the demand for affordable, Small classes in the community, with professional qualified teachers. Since the launch in 2010, SBLAS has received tremendous success. Maria trains to the highest standards, and is associated with AOTOS and BVA associations, training in workshops and new techniques. Maria is a BTDA teacher, who has trained with ABRSM, London College of Music, and LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). Maria's teachings go further than SBLAS and works in local schools teaching acting and singing. Maria and SBLAS are now recognised beyond Dorset, and work closely with London coaches, to bring SBLAS children the best of the best. Maria currently works with Mark De Lisser, patron of SBLAS the very well known vocal coach, and has weekly seminars with Tom Burke based in New York City to make sure her students receive the best and up to date tuition skills. Maria currently is working with LAMDA with their up dates for their Musical Theatre syllabus, which is a great achievement. At SBLAS, Maria and her team teach beyond the studio encouraging life skills, self motivation, personal development, self-expression and a determination to succeed.
Shining Bright Like a Star are really professional, yet great fun for the children. They do lots of events which are brilliant for confidence building. My daughter does singing classes. She didn't think she could sing, but she can and very well! There is a lovely crowd of children at Shining Bright Like a Star and my daughter gets on very well with the teachers too. Maria has put her heart and soul into Shining Bright Like a Star, I really can't fault it!
