The Rox School of Dancing offers a range of dance and drama classes for children (beginners or advanced) in purpose-built facilities. Children can learn Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Street Dance, Bollywood, Musical Theatre (dance, singing and drama) and in Boys-only classes.
Children can learn their chosen dance style “just for fun” or work towards recognised exams such as RAD (Royal Academy of Dance), ISTD (Imperial School of Teachers of Dance), LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) and New Era Drama exams. The dance school has been teaching children since 1991 and has four dance studios in Hove. The four large mirrored dance studios all have fully sprung floors, air conditioning and two-way mirror facilities. There are separate boys and girls changing rooms (no changing in the Church Hall!) and a parents waiting area with TV and a few toys for toddler sibblings. There is also a vending machine for hot and cold drinks and snacks.
Children are encouraged to take part in local shows such as the Brighton and Worthing Festivals and Rox dance school has provided juveniles for the Theatre Royal Brighton pantomimes from 2004-2010. We are also very proud that past & present pupils perform in West End Shows and have qualified as Dance Teachers.
Parents are invited to attend the last class of every term to watch and discuss their child’s progress. In addition, talented ballet students may be invited to take part in our Scholars Scheme from which they benefit from intensive tuition provided free of charge.
Every three years The Rox School of Dancing holds a show at the end of the Summer Term incorporating all aspects of dance and drama. All children are invited to take part and parents and grandparents encouraged to come and watch.
Rox School of Dance and Drama has been running a Summer School for many years, giving children the opportunity to either improve on their existing talents, or in some cases learn an entirely new aspect of performance.
During the week students are given the chance to take part in all aspects of dance, drama and singing, culminating in a performance on Friday evening at The Ralli Hall, Hove. Tickets for this event will be available to family and friends. The school is open to children of all ages who will be divided into four age groups to give each child the opportunity to work at their own level. Places are limited to 15 children per group and special classes are held for children 5 years and under. Please ring us for more information on summer camps.
Physical and intellectual disabilities can be catered for although children and parents do need to use stairs to reach the school (the building has no lift).
The Dance Teachers are all qualified and experienced in teaching children and all very passionate about seeing each child’s dancing skills develop. We believe this is what makes the dance school special and why our children love their dance lessons.
We look forward to hearing from you and hope you join our passionate-about-dancing team!
The Rox School of Dancing is located close to Hove train station and children join classes from Hove, Brighton, Worthing and surrounding areas. Parking is available free within 5 mins walk or on meter close to the dance school (20 mins meter is free).

My eldest daughter who is now 9 has attended ROX from the age of three and my youngest who is 5 since the age of two and a half. I feel ROX has a true emphasis on building strong technique and it is the quality of the training that has ensured my daughters, especially the eldest, achieve their grading by pushing her to be the best she can be. I mean that in an extremely positive way, the coaches guide encourage and where necessary push the student, whether that be for an exam or a show. It is a true community with families feeling comfortable to be involved in day to day activities. The school is friendly and accepting of every ability. I would recommend to anyone looking for a dance school
focused on technique and first class training.
It's very clear this school and staff are very focused on the children. Not only are the teachers focused on the child's engagement but also their progression. The children really enjoy themselves which is testament to the warm friendly environment.

Kitty has been attending the Rox school for nearly five years now where she attends classes in Drama, Tap & Modern Dance and Ballet. I believe that the dance training she's received has helped her grow as a person as it has reinforced her understanding of how hard work leads to achievement. Kitty has worked very hard towards all her exams at Rox and passed with distinctions. This important lesson is also carried over to other aspects of her life. The teachers encourage the students and use positive criticism to build results. The students are spoken to on a mature level and take responsibility for their learning. The school provides a safe environment for the children to learn, where they support each other and there is a healthy level of competition.
