Tatty Bumpkin classes are fun, yoga-inspired stories designed to encourage movement and enhance development with classes run in Brighton, Hove and Lewes. The sessions focus on giving a firm foundation for social, emotional and physical confidence. Each session follows an adventure, using stories, music, props and simple yoga moves based around the character doll Tatty Bumpkin. All our classes are aligned to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, and have been developed by Paediatric Physiotherapists, Yoga teachers and educationalists, to give the children a creative, well rounded, developmental and fun story session. The Tatty Bumpkin training is accredited by CACHE (Council for Awards in Children's Care, Health and Education). We can also help turn birthday parties into magical adventures.
Tatty Bumpkin is also used as a multi-sensory educational resource for teachers in reception, Key Stage 1 and 2. Using narrative, movement and music, the resource will help with topic work, being flexible and creative. The highly structured, fun programme is fully aligned to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and develops social and attention skills, language, maths, knowledge and understanding of the world, physical movement and creativity. Your children will also develop physical, emotional and social confidence alongside a sense of well being.
Our baby bumpkin classes (0-2 years) are 3-in-1 - combining storytelling, music and simple baby yoga movements with the fun Baby Bumpkin demonstration doll, and give all the babies from 6 weeks to crawling a great physical foundation to development. There is also emphasis on the parent, with time for discussion amongst the group and lots of creative parenting techniques. The unique story structure will give you ideas on how to communicate and play with your baby at home.
For children aged between 2 and 7, the classes are made up of 5,6,7 week blocks, covering topics such as Focus/balance, Relaxation, and Multi-sensory world .As a parent /carer you are actively encouraged to get involved in the class, as this greatly helps with creative parenting techniques, and continuity outside the class. You will be given a chart at the beginning of each term, where you and your child can collect stickers to motivate you both, and on the certificate there will be ideas to take home and practice. The sessions are run as terms so that there is a progression, and so that you will get extra value out of the time you spend in the classes. Tatty Bumpkin classes are ideal for all children of all abilities. Please contact me if you or your child has special requirements.
We cover Brighton, Hove, Lewes and the surrounding areas. Tatty Bumpkin (the world's first and award-winning bendy yoga doll, see below!) will take your child and their friends on a magical adventure . The adventure involves lots of movement, animals, stories, puppets, music, games and fun with a parachute, finishing with a relaxation (yes a relaxation!), and stickers.
The parties can be themed so your child really enjoys them? - such as Ocean Adventures, a Pirate or Princess Adventure or even Down on the Farm where Tatty enjoys some quality time hanging out with the animals on the farm and helps to dig up a huge vegetable and make some magic soup. The children will be tired but happy and relaxed at the end!
It works best with around ten to twenty children plus siblings (depending on the space available and age of children) and can be adapted to suit children from 2 to 7 years. It actually works well with mixed ages so don't worry if you've got younger siblings - they really love it! You only need enough space for the children to able to move around, so it's possible to run the sessions in your own home or other suitable venue. Please discuss space and numbers of children with me.

I contacted Tatty Bumpkin when trying to organise my daughter's 3rd birthday party and found them to have a fantastic and positive attitude, they also went above and beyond what I expected in relation to helping organise the day. By helping source and checkout locations and even helping with the decorations, they made what could have been a stressful day wonderful and memorable! Emma was very warm and smiley and really engaged the children, despite there being a mix of ages - the kids were mesmerised! The activities were really engaging and creative; the day had a really calming effect on the children. The feedback from the kids and parents was all positive with some even saying that they had never been to such a fun party
Henry and I think Tatty Bumpkin is great. Henry is happy, smiling and really gets involved in the stories especially with the doll. I can see the benefits of the class for him in terms of the physical positions and the integration with children in the group. The physical side is excellent for stretching, balance and learning to relax. The integration with the group is particularly helpful for Henry as he often likes to be different and do the opposite of groups, whereas the Tatty Bumpkin class encourages him to join in and be part of the group. Emma leads the class in a fantastic way and you can see she knows yoga well and knows how to engage with the children. She also pays attention to the details and the cleanliness of the blankets and equipment is spotless. I really can't fault the class and recommend the classes without any hesitation.

Emma was born in Brighton and has lived and travelled all over the world before coming home to the place she loves the best!
Ian is originally from Norwich and has definitely found his ideal home by the sea.
My kids absolutely love their sessions with Emma of Tatty Bumpkin. I think it is the mix of igniting their imagination through storytelling and the Yoga stretches that appeals to them. Hugo and Hettie leave their session eager to return. Hugo is only 18 months but loved the freedom to wander about whilst being drawn into the session through the story. Emma's delivery relates to the children and is enchanting.
Where most other activities build excitement it is great to have an activity they love that is calming and relaxing - I found this very refreshing.
