8 Motivational Habits You Should Take Up Today

Find time to switch off electronics

Finding a time in the day where you switch off can be hugely beneficial to your health and well-being.

Electronic devices are gradually becoming more and more invasive as they evolve into ever smaller and more wearable technology, allowing you to wear glasses with a heads up display or have a watch with email capabilities. Whilst this is an improvement in technological terms, the increased stress and restlessness that comes from always being contactable can seriously affect your ability to relax and unwind.

Find at least an hour of your day where you can switch off all electronic devices and reap the benefits of a more productive and efficient mental state.

Learn something new every day

It will come as no surprise to you that a common trait amongst the super successful is that they are constantly learning new things to add to their knowledge base. The average audio book is 10 hours long. If you commute 60 minutes a day, you can listen to around 24 books a year.

Pick a subject that interests you and fill your daily commute with an educational experience that will take you to the top of your game.

Exercise regularly

Exercising regularly not only helps you physically, but also improves you mentally as well.

By exercising regularly you’ll benefit from:

  • Reduced stress
  • A boost in your happy chemicals
  • An improvement in your self confidence
  • Preventing cognitive decline
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Increased brain power
  • A sharper memory
  • A help controlling addiction
  • Improved sleep

With all these benefits there’s no excuse for missing that gym session now. Get active and start enjoying the benefits of a healthy life today.

Volunteer and give back

Volunteering and giving back not only benefits those who you have chosen to help, but also makes you feel great about yourself and increases the size of your support group. Find a way to give back to your community and give as little as an hour a week to gain a massive increase in your karma points.

Why not apply to take part in the KalliKids Sponsored Child initiative? Offer a place on your activity or service and benefit from changing the life of a child who would otherwise be unable to take part.

Socialise

This doesn’t have to mean meeting a group of friends at the pub every Friday night.

Socializing is important as it helps you to feel a sense of belongingness, which is essential to achieving your best mental mindset. Socializing can come from a range of interactions like contributing in social media forums or LinkedIn groups; these can both create a real sense of belonging.

Sleep

Much has been said about getting in your 8 hours a day. The sheer importance of a good nights sleep can never be underestimated.

You will find your productiveness in the day will be directly affected by the quality of sleep you managed to get the night before. So leave the evening movie marathons for the weekend and instead curl up to a night of restful sleep in your working week.

Keep up with current events

Keeping up with current events is a rewarding way of getting a good perspective of the world around you and making sense of your current surroundings. Not only is the material a great conversation starter for your next networking event, but you will start to be able to comment on current affairs relating to your life which can entertain and engage your social media audience.

Most news media companies have created an app allowing you to get bit sized news articles delivered directly to your mobile. Try the BBC app.

Remind yourself why you became an entrepreneur

Working for yourself can be both incredibly rewarding and agonizingly tough. During the tough days (of which there will be many) it’s important to reflect on why you became and entrepreneur in the first place.

This moment of reflection will help you spark up your lost motivation and breath new life into your motivation.
