Painting Pottery Cafe in Brighton

Never been pottery painting before? Don't worry, help is on hand, so there's no need to be an artist. All ages welcome. With a million masterpieces behind us we are sure we can help you make one of your own! Upstairs -we can sit up to 34 people in our main shop area. Downstairs- we have two areas and can sit up to 30 people. Booking is helpful especially at weekends or for groups. Whatever your celebration - you don't need an excuse, and over two floors there is plenty of space to have fun. Just turn up and let your imagination run free. Choose from over 200 different ceramic pieces including plates, mugs, bowls, vases and ornaments. We also offer Special Birthday Packages.

When you have finished your masterpiece we glaze and fire it and you collect your pottery a few days later. If you can't wait that long, some items can be painted and taken home on the same day. We can also post items to you if you can't make it back to Brighton to collect.

Hand and footprints can be captured on pottery or as a plaster cast- a perfect keepsake for Parents and Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles..

Children's Birthday Parties

Children of all ages love it as they can let their imaginations run wild. You'll love it because we clean it all up afterwards! For six kids or more we offer our Special Birthday Packages. We will explain how to use the materials and give advice on colour and design. The party usually takes place in our party area, downstairs, which enables you to bring your drinks & cake. A member of staff will stay with you to help.

Bronze Package:

Each child is given small plate to design and decorate. We also give a heart decoration for all the children to sign for the birthday child. We allow up to 1.5 hours. Minimum 10 Children

Silver Package:

The children are given a selection of pottery -mugs, plates and bowls. The birthday child also gets a larger item for all the children to sign. We allow up to 2 hours Minimum 8 Children

Gold Package:

Have a themed party- fairies, dragons, skulls? The birthday child also receives a money box for friends to sign. We paint a special birthday tile. Alternatively we can offer you a selection of favourite items. We allow up to 2 hours. Minimum 6 Children.

Platinum Package:

A studio assistant gives a taster session on how to throw a pot and everyone has a go. The children are also provided with a plate, bowl or mug to paint. Suitable for 8 years+. We allow up to 2-3 hours. Minimum 4 Children.

Alternatively you may wish to book space in the main shop and choose your own items. If you have an idea in mind please talk to us. We are open Sundays or you may wish to have your party after school.

Workshops

In addition to our normal activity of painting onto ceramics we also run a host of art and craft workshops for children and adults. All our workshops are with experienced potters and crafters.

The taster sessions are the most popular throwing workshops. You can come and just "have a go". Our Studio Assistants make it seem very easy - everyone ends up with a pot or bowl that they can then come and decorate at another time. You will throw your very own pot or two in under an hour! If you wish you can have it glazed and fired or pay the studio fee and return another day when your pot is fired and decorate it.

Pottery Courses

Pottery courses are available for all abilities. Your tutor will guide you through the various techniques of handmade pottery, over a 6 week period, which includes:

• Coil pottery
• Hand and slab building
• Throwing on the wheel

Pottery Club

Our resident potter, Katy, will be running a taster Pottery Club session on the 12th August from 12-1.30pm for kids age 6+. The session will give the opportunity for a go on the wheel and some hand building. The students can return to paint their pottery any day during August. £20 per child including all materials.

This is a precursor to Katy's after school Pottery Club starting on the 9th September. The club will meet on Mondays or Wednesdays either 3.30-5pm or 5-6.30pm. The club runs concurrently throughout the school year. Fees are paid on a 4 week basis - £45 including all materials. Small group size.
