Made and Making runs SEWING & CRAFT WORKSHOPS and SEWING PARTIES. If you are looking for something original then fun look no further. We use our dedicated Workroom in Ditchling.
Workshops run during most school holidays and usually last for between two and three hours. A variety of projects are undertaken (please visit our website for the most up to date offerings) and all workshops are mixed so that means the boys can come too! Workshops start at just £20 for and include all materials and refreshments (unless otherwise stated). Parent and Child joint workshops also run allowing you to learn and spend quality time together.
They run in a friendly and relaxed environment where beginners and experienced work alongside each other. In a creative environment they will undertake hand/machine sewing, learn how to use embellishments and trims and transfer their own designs from paper to fabric. For teenagers there are also specific workshops covering more advanced sewing techniques and projects.
Alternatively hold a sewing party to entertain them and they'll have an educational experience as well as something wonderfully hand made to take home and remember the day.
An hour and a half is all it takes for your child and friends to make their own creation. All children will make the same project and themes include:
If it is a mixed group then it will be tailored accordingly. All materials, thread and trims are included and we even supply you with party invitations.
As we travel to you, you will need to have the space to sit the children in one area where we can all sew comfortably. Alternatively you may have hired a hall and we can meet you there.
Parties are for 7 years and upwards and we can cater for up to 12 children. (If there is an occasional younger member please let us know as their ability will vary).

I attended a Stocking Making Workshop for Parents of Non Walking Babies at Hassocks Village Hall. It was great as there were toys and mats set out for the babies so I hadn't had to bring lots of stuff to entertain Eleanor with me. Sarah managed to pitch the course so that all the different skill levels were catered for - from being a novice (such as myself) to quite skilled seamstresses. It was definitely worth it as I managed to pick up lots of techniques, and had something very personal to keep at the end of the day. The session finished later than expected as Sarah kindly stayed on to let us finish our projects as knew we would never complete them once we arrived home!.
Cora attends Sarah's Made & Making workshops where she has learnt how to sew by hand and how to use a sewing machine. Sarah is extremely patient and very good at bringing out Cora's creative side. Sarah provides a safe and clean environment for the children and they really love her sessions. I can't think of anything that she can do to improve it.
Brilliant - my daughter loves it and has made some terrific things.
Sarah is a lovely tutor, an expert who the children love working with. Really positive experience on every course.

Hi, my name is Sarah and I have been sewing and crafting for as long as I can remember. I am never happier than when I am knee deep in fabric and rummaging in a box for that special button or trim to finish a project off.
Made and making is my chance to share this passion and my skills with others - both those who want to learn and master new skills, and also those who want to develop the skills that they already have.
Alongside my adult workshops I run regular after school sewing sessions as well as children's holiday workshops and sewing parties. It is important that the fundamentals are taught but I strongly believe in creating environments where children are comfortable and relaxed and feel confident and able to use their own creativity. My job is to capture the imagination, create a desire to learn and inspire.
"Most of us are never happier that when we are at home with friends and family. I love creating our home and I want others to enjoy the simple pleasures as much as I do. To let them get lost in a small project for a few hours, maybe more if you're lucky, and have the satisfaction of having made something that means something to you. I want people to have the chance to sit down with like minded people and have fun sharing ideas and learning new ways of doing things. We have so much around us in our homes that we can reinvent, crafting doesn't need to cost a fortune".
I held a Made and Making party for my eldest child who is 10 after winning a voucher at a school fete. The party was great and Sarah came so well prepared. Everything was so beautifully presented from the pin cushions, to the table cloth and the party bags. Sarah was great with the kids and kept their attention and interest the whole time. The whole party was really hands on, creative and child centred. They came away with decorated hanging birds that they made, and some great party bags. I didn’t have to worry about supplying any of the materials and the whole party was very safety focused when it came to stuff like the pins and scissors.
